Children and Families

With a certification in The Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics and extensive training in Trust Based Relational Interventions, I have extensive practice in working with children and families experiencing traumatic struggles. In my experience in foster, adoption, and CPS families, I have learned that therapeutic care for a child extends well beyond the one hour a week of therapy and skill building. Therapy for a child involves a community and a system that is focused on creating an environment focused on healing.

In working with children, I complete a metric assessment to explore your child’s current functioning. This metric gives us a glimpse into your child’s development and where we need to start our intervention in therapy, the home, and school. I will typically meet with the parents of the child for our first session to get as much detail about the child’s history, relationships, and functioning. I will meet with your child at the second session to build rapport and complete my intake assessment. At the third session, I like to bring the parents back to review the information, create a plan for the next steps in the home and school, and offer psychoeducation on how to help the work we do in therapy. This metric also guides my work in session with your child to help me determine what skills we need to work on. After 3-6 months, I can rerun the assessment and see how much progress your child has made and explore the next steps.

Teens

Much like younger kids, teenagers need more than just one hour of work in session every week. They also need a system that will help them utilize these skills and also provides a nurturing environment to support the work they are doing.  With teenagers being typically more online about their struggles, I like to collaborate with parents and teenagers to complete a metric assessment to explore the teen’s current functioning. This metric gives us a glimpse into your teen’s development and where we need to start our intervention in therapy, the home, and school. I will typically meet with the parents of the child for our first session to get as much detail about the child’s history, relationships, and functioning. I will meet with your teen at the second session to build rapport and complete my intake assessment. At the third session, I like to bring the parents and teen back to review the information, create a plan for the next steps in the home and school, and offer psychoeducation on how to help the work we do in therapy. This metric also guides my work in session with your teen to help me determine what skills we need to work on. After 3-6 months, I can rerun the assessment and see how much progress your child has made and explore the next steps.

Men

In working with men of all stages of life, we often find there is a deep need for care and space to be honest about life struggles. Men are often asked to contain their emotions and shove their feelings away, but this can often create hardships in relationships. Be it the struggle with a spouse/partner or with children, our insecurities and vulnerabilities bleed out onto those we care about most. This can look like completely shutting down and being void of feeling. It could look like blowing up and lashing out verbally and/or physically. It can even look like struggling with vices behind the backs of loved ones as a way to cope with the weight of the world resting on tired shoulders. However it may look for you, we are here to help you identify the triggers, learn the skills needed to successfully manage your thoughts/emotions, and process the incidents that contribute to your current experience. We do this through evidenced-based therapeutic approaches that are client-centered such as EMDR.

Women

We work with women from all walks of life who have carried the hurts of life on their backs and are seeking relief or a space to breathe. Whether a young struggling with identifying a life path, a new mother overwhelmed by postpartum anxiety/depression, or even a mother with an established family of five needing help with the overstimulation and isolation that can often occur, we work to create a relationship based in authenticity so you can experience warmth, care, and support. Through psychoeducation, EMDR, and somatic work we help women find the skills and process the hurts that have contributed to the current life experience.

Couples

I am Level Two Gottman Trained in couples therapy. Whether looking to start off your marriage with a solid foundation or working on healing the hurts that have accumulated over the years, we begin by exploring how the relationship is being nurtured, what actions on both parts are contributing to a breakdown, and build the skills necessary to help increase and strengthen the love in the relationship.

It is not uncommon to begin the assessment phase of couples counseling and realize one or both partners may have unresolved trauma that needs to be addressed before we can truly move forward in healing the couple. When this is noted, the couple will be advised, offered referrals or scheduling options, and establish a plan for how to move forward in the most therapeutic and financially feasible way.
